It's all about the little details.
Josiah by refridgerator light. A typical quick glance.

Wow, I thought Josiah was dalissa for sure! The resemblance is definitely there.
The doorknob is great...it helps to have fabulous hardware...looks like authentic arts and crafts from the 20s. Lucky (she says like Napoleon Dynamite). I like the warm side/cool side thing going on, and the person with hands in pockets just makes it.
Wow, for a couple of seconds I thought that was Dalissa! Then I wondered, were you inside the fridge taking the picture? lol
Your shots are so unique and I love the fuzziness(don't know the technical term).
Susan
Yes, Josiah is Dalissa's clone. He was actually looking in the fridge, I shot through the crack of the door. I am glad someone noticed the person in the doorknob. I didn't know if that would come through. I think this hardware is the original from when the house was built in 1901. Luckily most of the house is original and untouched...none of the woodwork was painted over, and most of walls were just one very old layer of wallpaper. Obviously it is all in need of some repair.
Okay I didn't notice but love it!
The Keyhole is fantastic! And I'd noticed with some previous photos just how much Josiah looks like Dalissa--this from someone who almost never "sees" resemblences. Are you SURE you are not lurking in the refrigerator?
If I could fit in the refridgerator, I would if it meant getting a cool picture.
I am really enjoying the opportunity to see your pictures on a daily basis. From time to time Dalissa would post a link to some of your photos and I've also seen some at our retreats but getting to see them everyday is a treat.
The keyhole photo is wonderful - everything about it just so rich. How did you get the contrasting colors?
And I cannot believe how much Josiah looks like Dalissa! I don't think I would've ever thought about taking a picture through the crack in the fridge door.
Thanks Sandy, I have done a lot of experimenting over the years working with varying light sources. it is all there, but your eyes have a natural filter that balances things out. This picture is the blue glow of the television mixed with the tungsten light in the hallway. I am pretty excited to get to work like this a little(more personal stuff). I have spent most of my time since college trying to learn how to light everything nicely using flashes and modified light. What I relly love is to work with light in the way I am right now. I hope to use this more, and I have been, in my professional work. I also enjoy having feedback like this. I have wanted to do something like this for a while (sharing photographs and discussion). I can't wait to see what everyone does over the year.
I love the way you are playing with natural light. You pictures are really making me itch to get back into photography! Some of these are serious gallery worthy work!
The picture of the doorknob is by far my favorite of all you've posted so far. I wouldn't have know how to tell you why if someone else hadn't already mentioned the effect of the warm and cool colors together - that's it.
